Pattern Recognition

In the book, Cayce see the pattern recognition as a world around her, one that she is a part of, but does not understand. She is able to recognize the patterns, but without meaning, the patterns make no sense. She constantly notices them but without conprehending the full picture. She is drawn to them. As the story developes, more and more of the "plot" is revealed to her and her pattern recognition is now reinforced by further events. She is almost carried along the story, mostly only reacting to events and seeing the patter but not having any control over the events themselves.

Trolling

The aim of trolling is an adolescent way of teasing and picking on a person or organization. Because it is on the internet, there is almost no recourse on those trolling. On one hand, it is horrible how people like Fortuny abuse others as a form of entertainment. On the other hand, as long as it is not happening to me, sometimes it is still funny.

Cyber-bullying

I think the only way to characterize a profile on its truthfulness is how much does it represent the person. I don't know if this can ever be fully achieved, as most people have a tendency to "fudge" some information to make themselves appear a certain way. In the case of Megan Meier, it was the fault of several people. Lori Drew, the woman that created the fake profile, was trying to see if Megan was spreading rumors about her daughter, and in doing so, drove a girl to kill herself. This paranoid behavior of Drew went way over the edge. I think that the parents have a responsibility to monitor their children. I think the excuse of "you can only be at one place at one time" is not good enough. I thought it was the responsibility of the parents to teach their children common sense so do not believe everything they read. The girl was 13 years old and should be aware of the rampant nonsense that takes place on the internet.

Still on wiki tasks

I did basic grammar corrections for two wiki tasks, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bo_Diddley and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitty_Hawk_class_aircraft_carrier.

My group did a wiki page on the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism, which can be found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wvu_school_of_journalism

Authorized Personnel Only

I chose Creative Commons License
This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License.

I want my work to stay my work. I don't care if someone references it, but I do not want anyone changing or manipulating it, especially for their own gains. I mostly chose it to be noncommercial to stick it to the man, again because I don't want anyone else to profit from it. The work should stay mine and I wrote it with a certain viewpoint and for a certain reason and I don't want anyone changing that. Even if I write something else at a later time, I still want what I previously said still on record, because that was my view at the time.

I don't think that the idea of property, expression, identity, movement and context are completely removed from physical boundaries on the internet. There is still property ownership for ideas. I understand his way of thinking though. Because everything is electronic and not actually on paper, and because everything is accessible from almost everywhere, there is almost a feeling that information sharing is just a mind exercise and has no tangible connection to the "real world." It is almost as if we are living in the Matrix and that at some point Morpheous and Neo will come crashing through the wall and hand us a red pill that will fully enlighten us.
